FOTD October 29 - Urban Decay Blue & Green

This was my first time using the Urban Decay products - I am loving the shadows! I haven't had the primer on long enough to judge yet but no complaints so far. I like the eyeliner but I'm also not seeing anything particularly special about it? I've heard so many people who love these liners and say this one is the blackest ever, but it seems pretty normal to me? Am I missing something? Again, no complaints - but it's nothing unique.

Sephora Haul and Swatches!

About a month ago, I won a contest on Erica's Facebook page with this look. (She also has a fantastic blog here.) As the prize, Erica mailed me a $100 Sephora gift card! I was so shocked to have won at all, and then there was such a fantastic prize. I've bought a few small items from Sephora in the past, but never anything over $10. I never thought I'd actually be buying full size items from there, despite how often I'd wander through and dream about what I would get if I could. After I made a list of some things I wanted to try, I went to one of the nearby Sephoras to get samples and otherwise try products out on myself. I also knew I was going to buy Stella McCartney's perfume in a rollerball since I've been wanting that fragrance for so long - I  would spray some on myself every time I went to a Sephora - but I didn't want to use up more than half of the gift card on an actual bottle. I've been using it most days since - I just love that scent!

Besides the perfume, I knew I would get the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box and the 24/7 travel set as soon as I saw them. I also was considering MUFE Mat Velvet + foundation (which I decided I liked but not enough to pay 3x as much as my current foundation), a MUFE Aqua Cream (maybe in the future - this is something I'd be more likely to use in the summer), MUFE Smokey Lash mascara (I will DEFINITELY buy this in the future! It's amazing! But I have quite a few mascaras open right now so I'm going to wait until I've used up a few of them), and NARS Pure Matte lipstick in Carthage (an amazing color and product...but $25 for one lip product was a bit much for me...especially since I have so many pink lip products)

My eyes after going to Sephora to try things out - MUFE Aqua Cream #13 all over my lids, UD 24/7 liner in Ransom , and MUFE Smokey Lash mascara. I didn't have my lashes curled at all beforehand and I was using the disposable mascara wands, and I was still really impressed with the way my lashes looked. Plus it didn't flake or transfer AT ALL and it wasn't even the waterproof formula!
After I'd narrowed down my choices, I found out that the Friends & Family sale was coming up, so I decided to wait for that to take advantage of the 20% off and maybe be able to get something else! I ended up getting two MUFE eyeshadows instead of just one. So here are the things I got in my order!

The samples that came with my order - I'm excited for the perfume samples, but none of the Clinique samples are the options for my skin type! They're meant for dry skin but mine is oily.
These Makeup Forever eyeshadows are SO bright and fun! It was really hard to get them to photograph correctly in pan - the swatches are a bit closer to how bright they are in real life. The purple is #92 and the pink is #75. I also love the packaging on these. I wish all shadows came magnetized in their containers!
I love colored eyeliner so when I saw this set I knew I had to have it. It's the  24/7 Travel Size set of 5 in Electric.
This is one thing I have been eyeing at Sephora for quite awhile. I love bright colors and wanted a palette that had a good variety of them and I've always heard such good things about Urban Decay eyeshadows. Plus since it has a few neutral shades, including the black, I think it would work well as a travel palette for me. It also came with a small Primer Potion.

If you have any thoughts or experiences with any of these products or the ones I didn't end up purchasing, please share them!

Halloween Manicure - Candy Corn!

I started with the Revlon base coat, then a layer of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White on. After letting that dry, I did the yellow layer with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mellow Yellow. Then I used Maybelline Orange Blazes over that. I decided not to make a big deal out of trying to get all the sections evenly spaced or the lines perfectly straight because anyone who's ever eaten a bag of candy corn knows that there are a lot of weird ones in there! After the three colors were done I did a coat of China Glaze White Cap (This is seriously one of my favorite polishes - it looks awesome over pretty much everything) and then topped off everything with a coat of Seche Vite.

This took me quite awhile (2:45 including taking and editing the photos for this post) but not because it's hard - just because I was using small motions with little product on the brush to avoid making a mess (as you can see I had very little clean up) and because I was really careful in letting each color dry before adding to it so as not to smear them at all.  I'm happy with the outcome, though!

Rainbow Eyes : Inspired by Pixiwoo

After watching this video from Pixiwoo this week I knew I was going to have to recreate it for myself! I didn't copy everything exactly - it was more of an inspiration.
I highlighted the shadows I used because I thought it'd be easier that way.
NYX Yellow Funk, Jordana Luv2$hop,Wet n Wild Enter A New Realm (red only), generic 88 palette from eBay (mix of three greens), MUFE #92 and #75, Wet n Wild I <3 Matte (blue only)
Products and tools used to create the look.

I first put a layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion and a layer of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk over the entire lid up to the brows and under the eyes. I used NYX eyeliner in Acid Green under the green area because I thought the green might need a little extra. Then I did all the shadow work, then brows, then lashes.

I used the darker powder in the Tweezerman brow powder duo for my brows.
To get the blue lashes, I used the white primer side of Revlon Lash Fantasy Total Definition mascara, then applied several layers of blue eyeshadow with a sort of flat-topped eyeshadow brush.

October: Haul and Swatches

ELF glitter eye Beauty Book from Target
Wet n Wild I <3 Matte palette from Walgreens

Milk of Magnesia (to use as a primer) - I am really loving this!
L'Oreal go 360 cleanser for sensitive skin - I don't have sensitive skin but I love this because I can put it over my eyes and it doesn't burn at all, which makes it easier to get all the makeup off.
Bottom left photo: Wet n Wild blushes in Pearlescent Pink and Heather Silk.
Middle set (from CVS) L-R: Milani Infinite liner, Miliani Liquif'eye liner, (accidentally switched the order of the eyeliner swatches but the lipsticks are in the right order) Milani HD Advanced Lip Color in Vivacious Fuchsia, Wet n Wild lipstick in 908C
The lipstick on the right is Rimmel Lasting Finish in In Vogue - LOVE this color! I found this at Walgreens.

If you have any questions on my thoughts on any of these products, let me know! I'd love to know what you think about any of them too.

Face of the Day - Wet n Wild Matte palette

If there are two things I love most in makeup products, it's bright color and a matte finish, so I was really excited when I heard about the Wet n Wild I <3 Matte palette. I found one right away - it was a bit broken but not too badly and I got it at a discount as a result. For this look, I used all but the two brown shades in the middle of the right side. I also used Wet n Wild blush and lipstick, keeping everything matte.

Stormy Pink

Stormy Pink can hardly be called hot pink but it looks very bright in the tube. I picked up because I assumed it would be bright, since it isn't at all what it looks like I thought I'd include it as a warning! (Or if you want a toned down version)

Haul - Walgreens and Marshalls

The danger of going to the Target downtown is that there is a Marshalls and a Walgreens (among other stores) in between my bus stop and Target. Sometimes I end up going in the other stores before getting my groceries...today was one of those times...whoops!

From Walgreens I saw they had a lot of the Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Halloween stuff out - including this crazy holographic glitter! I'm going to try using it on my nails - it looks amazing. I also noticed a bunch of Jordana products I hadn't seen in a store before, including the eyeshadow duos and the Lip Out Loud glosses. I decided to try some of the eyeshadows since I've been happy with the singles I have from them. I got another LipShine in Pink Grapefruit. I love these glosses because they're not sticky at all and they have a brush applicator. I got a clear Lip Out Loud gloss as well because I don't really have a plain clear lipgloss. The scent is kind of obnoxious but I'll get over it. The last thing I got at Walgreens was the got2b POWDER'ful volumizing powder because it was on sale for $3.99.

Then I stopped in Marshalls and saw the Tweezerman set marked for $10. I like the small tweezers - the regular size Tweezerman tweezers I got last week seem SO big to me! My brows are much darker than either of the powder shades but I'll still give them a shot to see if they blend in okay. On the way to the checkout I saw the L.A. Colors nail polish set - 7 crazy fun colors for $6.99! Being both a nail junkie and a lover of all things bright I could not resist.

If you've tried any of these products I'd love to hear your thoughts! I'm new to a lot of these items so I'd like to know what to expect!

Wet n Wild Lust Palette look

My actual FOTD today consists of five products - Revlon Colorstay powder, Milani Infinite liquid liner in Infinite, Maybelline The Colossal mascara, the Physician's Formula Eye Brightener shadow, and NYX Megashine lipgloss in La La. I was running a bit late today! Bright liner and a subtle shadow is my go-to look when I'm rushed, and there is nothing unique about it whatosever, so I didn't take any photos of the look.

Instead, I'll post photos from a look I did September 29th. I really love how it turned out - it's one of my favorite looks I've done in quite awhile. Of course I didn't write down my products that day, so there will be some guessing involved.

I honestly have no idea what products I used for my face! I don't think I used any blush, though, so it's nothing too unfortunate.

Eyes:
I know I used a primer, but I'm not sure whether it was the NYX HD or the Palladio.
The eyeshadows came from the Wet n Wild Lust palette. I used the lightest matte shade all over my lid. I love this shadow since it's basically my skin color but it's really nicely pigmented so it hides the veins in my lid well. I used the grey shade above my natural crease so it could actually be seen. I used the lightest shimmery shade as a highlight.
As a liner, I used the purple from the Physician's Formula gel liner trio for green eyes on both my upper lash line and the waterline. I then set both with a matte purple from the Lust palette.
I'm not sure what mascara I used, either! I've been rotating through quite a few lately, though I have been a bit more focused on using up my Maybelline The Colossal so that one is probably most likely.

Lips:
NYX soft matte lip cream in Addis Ababa, which is a product I've been reaching for a lot since I got it! LOVE these, specifically this color.

FOTD - October 3rd

I've been doing more with a light or neutral color on the lid and then putting the color in the crease or as a liner, since my eyelid space is tiny and if I'm not doing something very dramatic the lid color can get lost.
This is a lip combo I use pretty often - definitely one of my favorites! It lasts a long time on the lips and fades away nicely, in addition to feeling nice while it's on.

Face:
Revlon Colorstay foundation
NYX concealer in a jar
Physician's Formula Healthy Wear powder
Physician's Formula Happy Booster blush - Rose

Eyes:
Palladio primer
ELF Teal Dream quad - beige color
Jordana single - Ms. Jordana
Sonia Kashuk black gel liner
Maybelline The Colossal mascara

Lips:
Wet n Wild lipstick 905D
Revlon Super Lustrous gloss - Pink Pop

Nails of the Day: Fall is here!

Fall is my favorite season by far. I got so excited when it got cool enough for me to get out the jeans and sweaters and boots I’ve been neglecting the past few months. To further get in the mood (in addition to seriously increasing the quantity of hot tea I’ve been drinking!) I decided to paint my nails a decidedly autumnal color. While I’m all for wearing brights all year, some of the more subdued shades like browns and greys seem a bit out of place in the spring and summer.

China Glaze Ingrid is one of the only brown polishes I have ever thought was attractive. I think it flatters my skin tone and the subtle gold-ish shimmer makes it not such a boring, dull brown.

IMG_2865

What’s on your nails currently?

Do you have polishes you only really use during the fall or do you stick with the same type of colors year-round?

I'm going to try to do a Face of the Day post most days this month and stop ignoring my blog! My hair is a new color for the third time this month (I get bored...) so if my eyebrows look different it's just because they're different in comparison to my hair color.
