I love the way these polishes look together, probably because of their similar shimmer qualities. I tried a few looks before choosing one.

The green is Zoya’s Ivanka and the blue is Orly’s Halley’s Comet

China Glaze - Strawberry Fields with Zoya - Dannii

The winning combination (this time):

The pink is China Glaze’s Strawberry Fields and the purple is Dannii from Zoya.

I am really loving these two polishes together. Although I think I’ll need to combine the blue and green polishes soon!

Outfit and Face of the day

I didn’t take too many photos today, so I figured it would be simple enough to combine them into one post.

IMG_0582

Simple look today. Purple eyeliner and mascara, red lips.

Eyeliner is from the Physician’s Formula Gel Creamliner trio for green eyes, and the mascara is, I believe, for brown eyes.

For the lips I just used MAC Russian Red lipglass with a brush so I put on a thinner layer than usual.

Outfit of the Day: Rubber shoes!?!?

Sorry to post twice in one day, but I’ll never get caught up if I don’t! Forgive me?

OOTD June 21st 2011

Shirt- bought at a Temper Trap concert

One of my favorite shows I’ve been to. Such incredible energy and altogether amazing performances. If you haven’t heard their stuff, I suggest trying it out. You may recognize their song “Sweet Disposition” from commercials and 500 Days of Summer.

As I was typing this blog, one of their songs come through my iTunes shuffle. Lovely coincidence.

Pants- The Gap

Shoes – Payless

Even though they’re really strange (seriously, what IS that tiny hole at the toe??) I love my neon green rubber flats. I’ve had these guys since sophomore or junior year of high school and I just can’t part with them! Favorite thing about them? They’re super easy to clean!

I seriously regret not having bought this shirt in a million colors. It was $5 last summer and it really is one of my favorite shirts – lightweight and comfortable without being totally transparent.

Tape Manicure: Coral & Tiffany blue

Tape Manicure - Revlon Tropical Temptation and China Glaze For Audrey
Feeling uninspired, I asked the lovely people on the Beauty Broadcast fan page on Facebook what I should do with my nails. Rather than choose just one of their suggestions, I combined most of them into one manicure!
As a base color, I used Revlon’s Tropical Temptation.
After cutting what felt like a million superthin strips of tape and placing them on my nails, I topped them off with a thick coat of China Glaze’s For Audrey.
I used the Revlon Quick Dry basecoat and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri tocoat.
For doing this type of manicure, make sure you pull the tape off IMMEDIATELY. I accidentally went on and painted two nails and by the time I went back to the first one to peel it off, the For Audrey had gotten a bit tacky and it ended up getting bits into the coral. I just dipped a nail art brush into the coral and touched it up after it had dried, but just a forewarning.

Outfit of the Day - June 16th 2011

Tank top: Target (spring '11)
Pants: Aerie (early spring '11)
Necklace: Antique Consignment shop
Shoes: Born, via Marshalls (spring '10)
Earrings: Target

Certainly not going for anything fashionable today! I got ready for the day in about 5 minutes because I was craving a McDonalds breakfast and they quit serving at 10:30...but I got up at 10:05, and I was planning to spend most of the day cleaning my apartment. So rather than dress nicely, I went for lineny pants - my version of sweats - and one of my trusty Long&Lean tanks from Target.

L’Oreal Sublime Mousse Hair Color: My Experience

Hair Before
Before.
I last colored my hair a similar shade of dark brown in early March, so this is the faded out version, although it’s still darker than my natural color.
Hair During
During.
One thing to note is how there isn’t any of the color anywhere in/around the sink. There also wasn’t any on the toilet seat, the floor, the wall, or the bath mat. There was also substantially less on my neck and ears than with the more standard, more liquidy colors.
I didn’t like the scent of the conditioner that came with it at all. It was kind of like baby powder. I most often use a Garnier hair color and I absolutely love the scent of that conditioner, so maybe I’m just used to that. Luckily this fragrance didn’t linger on the hair like the Garnier one does.
Hair After
After.
The color did actually get on every hair, at least so I can tell! Last time I colored my hair, there were definitely some sections I missed (you can probably see some in the Before shots) or that were lighter than others.
I did like how little mess there was in the application. Not sure if I’ll repurchase yet, though. It’ll depend on how well the color lasts.
Have you tried mousse hair colors before, either this one or others? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Outfit of the Day - June 15th 2011

Skirt/Dress/Top: Forever 21 (I am really not sure what this is actually meant to be! It could easily be used as all three) - Although I got this this spring, I can't find it on the website so I don't know if it's still in stores! It was around $10
Tank Top: BCBGMaxAzria via Everyday People (For $1!!)
Sweater: Banana Republic via Everyday People (Can you see why I love this store??) I love this sweater because it's really lightweight and soft but it's machine washable and dry-able! I think it's my only sweater that is both.
Necklace: American Eagle
Earrings: They were a gift; I have no idea where to get them! I wear these most days because they go with everything.
Shoes: Payless Shoe Source. These are $19.99, and the only thing I know for sure is still available! They are basically the same thing as TOMS, they even give a pair to someone in need. I got mine during BOGO so they were $9.99. These are so comfy and go with almost everything - I think they'll be one of my favorite pairs of shoes.

Nails of the Day: Pink with White Crackle

Original manicure - Revlon nail polish in Oh My Magenta.
It's hard to tell but there is a very subtle blue undertone in the glitter.

After a day or two I got bored of it, but couldn't be bothered to take it off and start over, so I decided to do a crackle. I tried a few different ones on a swatch wheel to decide.
L-R: China Glaze - Crushed Candy, China Glaze - Lightning Bolt, OPI - Black Shatter
(I think China Glaze is better than OPI! Look at that crackle as an example!)

In the end I liked the white the best, although I would wear all three.

Sorry I got a little lazy and didn't clean up my nails at all before taking a picture!

Outfit of the Day - June 14th 2011

I've been taking pictures of my outfit and accessories for a little while for the purpose of seeing what I'm actually wearing and using out of my closet. I realized I could easily blog about it as well, so here's my first attempt.
Most of the full outfit photos aren't very good because I have just been propping my camera up on the opposite side of the room with a 10 second timer...It's a weird angle, I know. If you have any tips on photographing the whole body, let me know!

Top: Hollister
Pants: Gap (these are actually ankle-length pants but I find that very awkward looking so I always roll them up)
Necklace: Forever 21
Earrings: Target (you can't really see them but they are 3/4" silver hoops)
Shoes: My favorite used stuff store- Everyday People
(their Facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/everydaypeopleclothingexchange)

Most of this stuff is a year or so old, so I don't know if the same things are still around, sorry!

Nails of the Day: Lavender and White Crackle

Base color: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Lacey Lilac
Crackle: China Glaze Crackle Glaze - Lightning Bolt

I was rushing through this because it was starting to get dark in my parent's house and they didn't have power so I needed to finish it! As a result I didn't wait long enough for the base color to dry. Because of that, when I put on the crackle it pulled the base coat with it in a few spots, exposing my nail color. It was only in a few spots and wasn't that noticeable since I had used such a light color, but they aren't kidding when they say crackles need to be applied to completely dry polish.

CVS Haul and Review- 5.24.11

Products I got:
Wet n Wild Glassy Gloss (clear)
Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick - 860 Rosette
Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara - waterproof
Essie nail polish - Coat Azure
Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze - 542 Continuous Coral
Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat
Revlon nail polish - Oh My Magenta
Revlon Top Speed nail polish - Guava

Total cost: $23.45. Total savings: $32.08.

L-R: Guava, Oh My Magenta, Coat Azure

I've used Guava and Coat Azure on my nails so far and they are both gorgeous! I left both on my nails for several days - which must mean I love the color, since I usually change polish pretty often! They apply beautifully, also - even and opaque.
Guava is a creme finish, while the other two have shimmer.

L-R: Rosette, Continuous Coral

I haven't worn the lipstick out yet, but I have used the lipglaze and I really like it! It feels really nice and smooth and it's pretty longwearing, plus it has amazing pigmentation! I also like the packaging, as it's not unnecessarily bulky.

Since my clear Jordana lipgloss exploded all over my stuff several weeks ago, I got the Wet n Wild as a replacement. It's your standard clear gloss, and it's less sticky than the Jordana, which is definitely a plus.
The Sexy Curves mascara has become one of my favorites!! I like the way my lashes look with it, plus it's waterproof but still easy to remove! I think that will officially make me quit using my Covergirl Lashblast, since I only used it because it was waterproof, but it is impossible to remove!
I also really like the Revlon base coat. It does dry really fast! When painting my nails, I always do one hand, than the other, and by the time I've finished the second hand the first one is dry! With other base coats I would have to wait a bit for it to be completely dry.

Nails of the Day: Konad Flower Accent Nail

Base color: Revlon Top Speed - Guava
Flower from Konad m60 plate with white Konad special polish.

I seriously LOVE this color!! I think it really goes well with my skin tone, and it's so fun for summer - it kind of reminds me of popsicles.

I still haven't figured out how to stamp a Konad design in the same place on multiple nails, but it didn't really bother me with this one since they weren't right next to each other. Hopefully I'll get it down eventually!

Nail Polish Collection/Storage

I store my nail polishes in a snapware container with dividers inside. I got the Snapware at Target. The white dividers I got from the dollar store and the clear one I found at my parents' house, but I think it is from Target a few years ago.
The top level is where all my China Glaze polishes are, plus other brands that are "higher end" such as OPI, Sephora by OPI, Orly, Sonia Kashuk, and Zoya.

The second level is everything else, and it's where the cheaper polishes are. Revlon polishes over on the left. The top bin has Finger Paints and Milani. The bin in the middle has Essence on the left, Sally Hansen in the center, and Sinful Colors on the right. The bottom bin has Claire's and Covergirl on the left, ELF in the center,  then Wet n Wild and Maybelline on the right.

These really help me keep my polishes organized. The only issue is that Sephora by OPI and Covergirl polishes are a bit too tall for the lid or other level to fit properly so they have to sit on their sides. I also wish these were available in smaller sizes of the same height or one level at a time.

I have base and topcoats as well as my swatch wheels and nail art supplies in separate, smaller containers. They aren't Snapware but they're a similar idea. I keep polish remover, cotton balls, and all other manicure tools (nail clippers, cuticle pushers, etc) in an open-top bin that I also got at Target.

If anyone is interested, I can take photos of the other bins and do another post. They're not as specifically organized as the polishes so I didn't photograph them originally, but I easily can if you'd like to see. I could also do more specific photos of the actual polishes.
